Rare vintage wine of the year 1964

Vintage wines of 1964 from the most famous wine producers of Bordeaux and Burgundy, Piemont and Tuscany.
Not every wine is capable of aging well. Only the best wines from valuable vineyards have a high aging potential. These vineyards have the precious deep gravel soils of the Grand Cru Classés in Bordeaux and the ideal clay limestone soils of the great Crus in Burgundy. Also the small single vineyards of the Top-Barolos and Barbarescos in Piedmont belong to the privileged wine regions which create classical long-living red wines.
The grape varieties for such wines are Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot (Bordeaux), Pinot Noir (Burgundy), Nebbiolo (Piedmont) and Sangiovese (Tuscany).

The year 1964, today of course offers only a small selection of wines. The growing season in the year 1964 was mild and long, with a late harvest.
The great Bordeaux Clarets were classified in 1964 as Vin de Garde. The red wines from Bordeaux in the year 1964 show high concentration and a lot of tannins.
All the wines of 1964 have optimal level, color, label and cork. The bottles are stored in ideal temperature and controlled conditions.
Our wines are stored on our own stock at Antik Wein and are ready for immediate shipment.

You can select and order here your vintage wine of the year 1964.

Estates in Bordeaux are generally classified according to the quality of the producer. On the Left Bank in the Medoc wine region, the Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855 is the starting point for classification and includes most of the Left Bank estates as well as Sauternes and Château Haut-Brion of Graves. Estates which were not classified in that listing may be also classified under the Cru Bourgeois label.
In 1953, the rest of the Graves was classified. In 1954, a separate classification of Saint Emilion wine was set up for this Right Bank region.
While wine making styles vary, a general rule of thumb is that the Left Bank is predominately more Cabernet Sauvignon based with the Right Bank more Merlot based. The Graves area produced both red wine and white wine from the Sauvignon blanc and Sémillon grapes. The area of Sauternes and Barsac are more known for the botrytized dessert wines.
